Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
The short version. MSDB has no accounts and no sign-in. It does not collect, store or transmit personal information about you. Your favourites, watchlist, theme choice and recent searches are saved only on your own device, and are deleted when you uninstall the app.
Who we are
MSDB — Movies & TV Shows Guide is published by Mayaal, a software company specialising in mobile applications, television and set-top-box apps, and VAS platforms for operators.
For any question about this policy, contact us at hello@mayaal.com or via mayaal.com.
What the app stores on your device
The following is kept locally, in the app's own private storage. It never leaves your device, and we have no way to read it:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Favourites and watchlist | So your saved titles are there next time you open the app |
| Theme choice | To remember light, dark or follow-system |
| Recent searches | To offer them again as suggestions |
| Whether you have seen the welcome screens | So the three-page introduction is shown once, on first run, and not again |
| Cached catalogue responses | So browsing is fast and uses less mobile data. Clearable at any time from Settings → Clear cached data |
If you have your device's own backup switched on — Google Backup on Android, or iCloud on iPhone — this app's data may be included in that backup and restored when you reinstall or set up a new device. That backup belongs to you and lives in your Google or Apple account; we have no access to it. You can exclude or delete it in your device's backup settings.
What we do not do
- No user accounts, registration or sign-in.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or file access. The app never asks for a location permission and cannot see where you are. It does read the country set in your device's language settings — see “Your country” below.
- No selling or sharing of personal information, because none is collected.
Services the app connects to
MSDB is a catalogue. To show you anything it has to request information from the services below. These requests carry your device's IP address, as any internet request does, and are subject to each provider's own privacy policy.
| Service | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| TMDB | All catalogue information — films, shows, people, images, ratings |
| JustWatch | Where a title is available to stream, rent or buy. Supplied through TMDB; the app does not contact JustWatch directly |
| YouTube | Playing trailers, only when you choose to play one |
Your country
Streaming availability differs by country: a film on Netflix in one place
is on a different service, or unavailable, in another. So that the app can
tell you what is actually watchable where you are, it sends a
two-letter country code — such as JO or
GB — to TMDB when it looks up where a title can be watched,
and when you browse a streaming service.
Two things are worth being precise about:
- That country comes from your device's own language and region settings. It is not your location. The app has no location permission, never requests one, and cannot read GPS, Wi-Fi or network position.
- It is not stored anywhere, by us or on your device, and it is not tied to you — it is simply part of the request, in the same way the name of the film you tapped is.
If your device is set to a country the catalogue has no data for, the app falls back to United States listings so the section is not empty.
Children
MSDB is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children. The catalogue is a general audience film and television database.
Your rights
Because no personal information is collected or held by us, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf. Data held on your device is fully under your control: clear the cache from the app's Settings, or uninstall the app to remove what it has stored on that device. If you also keep a Google or iCloud backup, remove it there too — see the note above.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
